Kate Ramsay – Angel Wings

Made and designed in New Zealand, Kotuku is constructed using a whole-garment knitting machine, from local merino wool. Kate created Kotuku as part of her studies at AUT, where she explored the potential of 3D knitting technology when used in areas outside of apparel. In 2012 it was awarded Silver in the NZ Best Awards and was exhibited in The Cloud. This year it was shown in London’s Somerset House, and featured in Urbis Magazine. Currently in the final stages of commercialisation, Kotuku will be available soon.

THE RUG COMPANY

The Rug Company - One Wool.001

Carnival rug by Paul Smith for The Rug Company

Carnival is a dramatic development of Paul’s classic stripes, drawing inspiration from film transparencies and the vibrant movement of carnival dancers. The pattern is layered and complex and presents a particular challenge for our weavers in Nepal. The rug is hand knotted using Tibetan wool which is rich in lanolin, and chosen for its softness and durability. It is processed entirely by hand, and handled with such reverence that it loses none of its natural properties.
