200th Anniversary of the Newbury Coat
This weekend, 25th-26th June 2011 marks the 200th anniversary of the Newbury Coat. The story goes that back in 1811 the Greenham Mill owner, John Coxeter was heard boasting about his new machinery and his ability to turn the fleece of a sheep into a coat between the hours of sunrise and sunset. Sir John Throckmorton set a wager of 1000 guineas and the coat was made in 13 hours 20 minutes. Continue reading →

If you were watching BBC 3 late last night (Monday 20th June) you might have seen the latest episode of ‘Kill it, Cut it, Use it’ – a series about how we utilise excess animal remains in a huge variety of different products. Think that sounds a little disgusting? Well we should warn you, it can be quite graphic! Yarn Bombing!
So some people might be wondering what exactly ‘yarn bombing’ is. Essentially it is a form of graffiti where instead of a can of spray paint, a ball of wool and some knitting needles are used! Thousands of knitters from across the world have added their knitted creations to door handles, road signs, trees and lampposts. June 11th 2011 was actually International Yarn Bombing Day (though the celebrations last for the full week) and to celebrate we have decided to show you some of our favourite yarn bombing images.
