Vi-Spring Support Campaign for Wool at Lord Mayor’s Show

This Saturday (12th November) will see the annual Lord Mayor’s Show take place in London. It is the “longest, oldest and most popular civic procession in the world” and has been taking place on the second Saturday in November for almost 800 years! Tradition dictates that the newly-elected Lord Mayor must leave the City in order to pledge his loyalty to the Crown. Each year his journey is celebrated by hundreds of thousands of people, who line the streets to witness the procession.

This year, renowned British bed-makers Vi-Spring will be supporting The Campaign for Wool at The Lord Mayor’s Show by parading through London with their new ‘sumptuously soft’, all-wool bed, The Shetland.

Wool is naturally luxurious and is uniquely suited to bed-making because of the combination of warmth, resilience and softness. Vi-Spring is the only bed-maker in the world that uses Real Shetland Wool. Each bed is hand-filled with British fleece wool – they use more, in fact, than any other bed-maker. This illustrates their support for The Campaign for Wool and their commitment to using one of Britain’s finest resources to increase demand for wool and preserve the wool industry.

The Lord Mayor’s Show 2011

This year’s procession is to be led by the 684th Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman David Wootton. It will begin at London’s Guildhall at 11am. It travels down to Mansion House then crosses the City via Bank and St Pauls to deliver the new Lord Mayor to the Royal Courts of Justice on the Strand at about 12.40. While the Lord Mayor pledges loyalty in the ancient ceremony, the procession re-forms for the return leg, which sets off down the Embankment at 1pm and finishes back at Mansion House around 2.30. There will be around 6000 participants, each of whom will have spent months preparing floats with the sole purpose of entertaining the hundreds of thousands of visitors who will line the streets!

The Mayor will be accompanied by “military displays, marching bands, acrobats, dancers, displays of pomp and charity and symbols of London’s ancient strength and resolve.” More information about the event can be found on the official website: www.lordmayorsshow.org.
