Marlfield Farm is a small business run by the same family for over 100years, located on the Yorkshire/Lancashire border, on the outskirts of the village of Earby. The farm has a strong ethos towards environmentally friendly and sustainable farming practices; In fact, in 2008 12,000 native English trees were planted on the farm which in time will mature, supporting indigenous wild life and enhancing the landscape. The farmhouse itself is very old, having had a kitchen extension built in 1765!
The farm has a small number of sheep, mainly Texel cross breeds, most of which are very easy to handle as there are not many of them and they have a particular love of bread! Some of the sheep have names, but not all. If a sheep does have a name it will either be a descriptive name (Cockly head has a wonky neck, Greenback 1 and 2, had a green stripe on their backs once upon a time and so on). There is even a sheep named after local BBC news broadcaster Ranvir Singh, following a feature on the LambWatch webcam back in 2008.
The LambWatch webcam has been running since 2008 and has attracted a considerable amount of media attention from the BBC and even ABC news in the USA, as well as local and national newspapers.
