Selvedge Wool Symposium
14th of October 2016
Artworkers' Guild in London

Join us for a day celebrating wool from all over the world at the Artworkers’ Guild in London. 6 Queen Square, Bloomsbury, London WC1N 3AT
Introduction from Selvedge founder Polly Leonard. First speaker will be Christien Meindertsma, a Dutch artist, followed by Adam Atkinson, founder of British company Cherchbi. The final speaker, before lunch, will be Brigitta Varadi, a Hungarian artist who now lives in the UK.
After a buffet lunch you will have the opportunity to take part in a ‘Fibre Tasting’ session where you’ll learn to hand spin with fleece from many different breeds of sheep with a drop spindle. You’ll be able to wind your newly spun yarn into a ball to later knit or weave into a cloth of your own and the spindle is yours to keep. This will be lead by Angela Colbridge of the Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers. During this session we also hope to offer a shearing demonstration. This will be confirmed nearer the time.
Bridgette Kelly from the British Wool Marketing Board will offer some closing remarks to our day and will be able to take any questions about the British wool industry.
During lunch and the afternoon session you will also be able to see some of the work from all of our speakers and a selection of graduating students who have been working closely with the British Wool Marketing Board.
