Wool Week UK is here!

Our most anticipated week of the wool-calendar is almost upon us! Here’s what’s happening around the UK during Wool Week, which kicks off Monday 5th October:

Savile Row – Sheep on the Row

To mark the official launch of Wool Week, we’re bringing sheep to Savile Row, quite literally! One of the largest public events for Wool Week will take place on Savile Row – the centre of men’s luxury tailoring in London on Monday 5th October. The iconic street will be transformed into a green pasture, with 30 Bowmont Merino and Exmoor sheep and two barn themes focusing on the landscapes of the main wool growing countries, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and UK.

Maurice Sedwell

Pop down to the event to witness an exclusive model presentation as well as have special access to the archives of some of the world’s most famous tailors and be exposed to the intricate processes involved in processing wool from the fleece through to fabric. Keep up-to-date throughout the day with @Campaignforwool #SheepontheRow and view our live stream today from 10am – 2pm on The Campaign for Wool’s Facebook page.

Capsu-Wool

Capsu Wool

We love a pop-up here in London! Our latest interior incarnation for Wool Week will encapsulate the contemporary small living space with dynamic colour and style. Including a truly bespoke vignette inspired by the nearby Savile Row – this wool interiors pop-up positions wool for people wanting sustainable authenticity and flawless good taste! Pop on over from Tuesday through to Friday, 11am – 5pm at 4, Clifford Street, just off Regent Street.

Woolly Films

For the first time we’ve partnered with YouTube favourite Chris Cohen and commissioned a series of three feel good videos; ‘No Sweat’, ‘Sheep of The Year’ and ‘Braaad Pitt’. The three films will be launched, so keep your eyes peeled!

Incrediwools

Incrediwools - montage1.docx

You may have already spotted some of our #ChooseWool takeovers on Instagram over the last few weeks. This year, The Campaign for Wool champions key figures across the wool industry today with a series entitled, The Incrediwools. Celebrating the breadth and diversity of the wool industry, The Incrediwools series will include knit designers Wool & the Gang, interior and textile designers Donna Wilson and Beatrice Larkin, Harris Tweed Hebrides Creative Director Mark Hogarth, photographer Ian Lawson, merino childrenswear brand Smalls and designers Ally Capellino, Douglas Cordeaux and Jeremy Hackett. Discover how wool inspires their work in our Incrediwools blog post here.

Wool in Fashion

This year, we’ve chosen a key edit of wool items for AW15 from our partner brands including, Abraham Moons & Sons, Anderson and Sheppard, Barbour, E.Tautz, Finisterre, Harris Tweed Hebrides, Holly Fulton, Jaeger, Jigsaw, Marks and Spencer, Pringle of Scotland, Topshop and Wool & the Gang. The edit has been styled by Luke Day and shot by Nick Leary on location in Scotland featuring model Devon Windsor. In addition to the creation of stunning fashion photography, a film captures the journey of wool across the highlands of Scotland. We’ll be sharing across our social channels, so stay tuned.

Woolly Hat Day

On Friday 9th October, we’ll be supporting ‘Woolly Hat Day’ in support of The Mission to Seafarers charity that provides care for seafarers around the world. Put on your finest woolly hat to raise money and support this important cause. New woolly hat patterns from Marie Wallin, Craft Revolution, Wool and the Gang, Debbie Bliss and R&B will be available to download online. We’d love to see your creations! Share your designs with #WoollyHatDay.

TwinSpin

We’ve joined forces with the Association of Guilds of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers to celebrate their 60th Anniversary. Together, we wanted to create a new generation of hand spinners and preserve one of the wool industry’s original skills. So we have created a great new promotion called TwinSpin! TwinSpin is all about learning how to spin natural fleece wool into wool yarn with the help of an experienced spinner. So how can you get involved? TwinSpin will pair you with an enthusiast and will help you learn the impressive art of spinning yarn!

Spinning, Knitting and Craft workshops

We’ve put together some great knitting and craft workshops this year, running at our Wool Open House. See below for our schedule for the coming week:

Tuesday: You can make a beautiful wool corsage for your wool beret with R&B

Wednesday: Conway and Bliss – are running a funky woollen hat class and Wool & the Gang are running a simple Snood class early evening

Thursday: Fairisle expertise with the talented Marie Wallin for experienced knitters Friday: Craft Revolution is running two beginners classes for Woolly Hat Day with drop in pom-pom scarf making all day long!

All workshops will be taking place at our woolly pop-up at 4, Clifford Street, just off Regent Street.

Counting Sheep at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour

In time for Wool Week, a flock of ‘ewe-nique’ cartoon sheep have been discovered grazing in the north dome of Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour! Part of a wider trend for artists and illustrators turning their talents to interiors, the irresistible doodle-style flock in tones of red, pink and orange has been specially commissioned to show colourful wool fabrics from some of the most important names in the industry. Fun, witty and ingenious, why don’t you pop along and count sheep this Wool Week! A Wool Week design trail has also been devised to show visitors where to find wool products in participating showrooms. From woollen fabrics to rugs and carpets, there is a vast array to choose from – everything from the contemporary classic to the cutting-edge cool.

Keep up-to-date with all of our activities during the week on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with#WoolWeek
