A unique collaboration blending sustainability, craftsmanship and tradition the Off-Cut Tweed project is part of a unique circular initiative promoting recycled waste in bespoke tailoring, spearheaded by Su Thomas at Eco-Luxe. The new tweed, designed by Managing Director Colin Heywood and Sam Goates, is woven from 70 kilograms of recycled textile waste from Anderson & Sheppard Bespoke, holders of The Royal Warrant of Appointment as tailor to His Majesty King Charles III, blended with pure new wool. Anderson & Sheppard cutting team always take care to produce very little cloth waste and the scraps of cloth left after cutting are known as off-cuts. The off-cuts are collected at 32 Old Burlington Street, and sent to Camira Yarns’ iinouiio project in Huddersfield, where they are reprocessed at their ground-breaking facility, using a circular system that began in the UK over 200 years ago, and spun into yarn at Brierley Bothers. Crossing the border into Scotland, the yarn is woven into tweed by Sam Goates at Woven in the Bone, an artisan mill on the coast in Buckie. Sam uses a historic ‘clickety-clack’ Victorian Hattersley loom, powered by pedals. The woven tweed cloth is finished in Galashiels at Schofield Dyers & Finishers, who provide specialist finishing for tweed. Every step of this process remains within the United Kingdom. This unique, environmentally friendly cloth travels back to London and is now available at the bespoke tailors, where it is displayed for customers to experience the colours and feel firsthand.

Hand-painted design of this year’s pocket square, created by Jenny Collier of London Scribes, holders of The Royal Warrant of Appointment for Calligraphy to His Majesty King Charles III, reflects the intricate journey behind this special fabric.
