07 October 2024

Joining Decorex as a sustainability partner, Campaign for Wool will present its ‘House of Wool’ pop-up concept, one of the first in a series of broader Wool Month activities set to take place across the UK throughout October 2024.

The Campaign will present a carefully curated selection of wool products sourced from the very best of its supporter base, all selected to help demonstrate wool’s versatility and many benefits when used throughout the home.

Promoting the strapline of ‘Check it’s Wool’, the Campaign for Wool wants to encourage interior designers, architects and specifiers to choose natural wool products as part of their design schemes as concerns around climate change and the proliferation of synthetic materials continue to grow. The Campaign aims to amplify wool’s visibility and underscore the critical importance of wool as a natural, renewable, biodegradable and sustainable option.

The display will feature premium British lambswool throws from Bronte by Moon, crafted by Abraham Moon and Sons, one of the last vertical woollen mills in Britain, throws and cushions from Lawrence and Barnes, beautiful undyed woven wool fabrics from Art of the Loom, new wool fabrics from British brand Linwood, and the newest innovative fabrics from pioneering brand Camira. Other participating fabric brands include: Fox Brothers, Harris Tweed Hebrides, and Lochcarron.

Abraham Moon, Cable & Blake, Harris Tweed Hebrides and Solidwool have provided furniture and lampshades for the special ‘House of Wool’ presentation.

Visitors will also be able to view the very latest wool flooring designs and trends from leading UK brands, including Brintons, Alternative Flooring, Axminster, Brockway, Grosvenor Wilton and Roger Oates. Featuring a mix of New Zealand and British wool, highlighting that each wool types enhances flooring with different natural benefits including whiteness for pastel shades, depth of colour for rich bright colours, durability, pile recovery and easy to care for.

The Woolroom and Vispring have provided bedroom and sleep products, brochures and technical information, and the newest home insulation products from the UK’s leading natural fibre manufacturers, Thermafleece and TrueWool, will also be on display.

Finally, one of the 2023 Innovation in Wool Awards winners, ‘Wool Pots’, has provided some eco-friendly and plastic-free plant pots.

Wool Facts:

  • Wool is also one of the most sustainable and circular materials available. It is 100% biodegradable in soil and water.
  • Recent studies show that when used in interior textiles such as carpets and upholstery, wool absorbs and locks away pollutants such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released by fossil-based compounds present in well-insulated modern homes.
  • Wool’s high nitrogen and water content make it naturally flame retardant.
  • Humans have been using wool to carpet their homes since around 2,000 BCE??.
  • Wool carpets are easy to clean due to the fibre’s protective membrane that repels dirt and stains.
  • Wool insulation can help reduce heat loss, improve acoustics, and better balance moisture and humidity levels.
