To mark Wool Month 2022, Marks and Spencer’s worked alongside The Campaign for Wool to showcase an M&S Originals wool edit, featuring key wool seperates from the AW22 collection. Championing the natural, renewable and biodegradable benefits offered by wool as a fibre.

The M&S Originals collection offers thoughtfully designed, responsible Menswear. Taking inspiration from archival pieces and reinventing them, paying homage to their unique British legacy. The limited-edition collection celebrates M&S incredible provenance and Plan A commitments including recycled wool, responsibly sourced wool, responsibly sourced Merino, undyed wool, recycled polyester, cotton sourced through the Better Cotton programme and recycled cotton.

The AW22 collection is a 46-piece edit comprising co-ordinating separates, knitwear, and contemporary tailoring alongside key accessories for a complete capsule collection. This season, we’ve combined timeless menswear classics and fabrics once again taken inspiration from key styles found within the M&S company archive. To create a collection which delivers a heritage aesthetic, whilst championing wool and the versatility of this natural fabrication.

Hero pieces include designs such as the Hawksworth suit, an elevated contemporary suit featuring a mini check pattern, relaxed styling and made with a luxury, responsibly sourced wool. The Armley coat, a Crombie style synonymous with suave authority and sartorial style, presented in a rich textured dogtooth with undyed wool. The Pennine jumper, styled from a submariner knit, this rib jumper receives a 21st century update finished in a luxury mid gauge responsibly sourced Merino wool blend. The Thorner jumper is inspired by the tartan of clan Campbell of Argyll in Scotland. The classic Argyll pattern is updated in scale and made in a wool blend. The Rothwell tweed blazer & Otley tweed gilet feature 100% pure wool, woven in the UK, with a contemporary utility inspired style featuring patch pockets. M&S’s Leeds archive is full of tweed blazers and they have reworked these classic styles in new fabrications from Abraham Moon & Sons Mill; an English fabric mill founded in 1837 and one of the last remaining vertical woollen mills in Great Britain. Finally, the Whinmoor jacket and Winchester trousers are crafted in a100% wool flannel, woven in the UK by Alfred Brown in Yorkshire. A family run mill, weaving fine worsted cloth since 1915. The jacket is designed with a peak lapel and 3 patch pockets, fully lined with 3 internal pockets.

THE CAMPAIGN This season marks the first anniversary of the M&S Originals collection, first launching in September last year. Once again, the supporting campaign features inspiring and stylish individuals as the M&S Originals AW22 ambassadors, Louis, James & Gow, who have all developed their own style identities during their lives and careers and showcase how easily the pieces can be co-ordinated. Each product within the collection is proudly named after a location within Yorkshire, the county in which their Leeds based Company Archive resides.
