The Campaign for Wool begins its 15 Year Anniversary ‘Check Its Wool’ awareness through a series of events during week commencing 9 June, bringing together the heritage and expertise of wool cloth manufacture alongside the craftsmanship of Savile Row tailors. The occasion marks the beginning of a special programme of wool advocacy and awareness events leading up to Wool Month this October.

Standeven, well known on Savile Row for their Yorkshire heritage, quality, craftsmanship and cut-length cloths were highlighted by their week-long presence at The Mill on The Row. The event space also showcased Sil Group/Luxury Fabrics range of prestigious brands, including William Halstead, John Foster, Kynoch of Scotland, Escorial, and Joshua Ellis.

The Mill on The Row, held at 20 Savile Row, was a week-long pop-up celebrating British weaving, and predominantly fine micron wools and fabrics in weights and finishes suitable for summer through to winter for fine suiting’s and heavier tweeds.

Fabric bunches, cloths and garments were displayed, including the newly updated Savile Row cloths including updated pin-stripes and the Carnival bunch of bright colours. Other cloth bunches include the finest examples of mohair, cashmere, alpaca, silk, angora, camel hair, yak and vicuna. Wool’s natural fibre properties mean that colour is taken to the core of the fibre and retains the intense bright shade and coverage during the lifetime of the garment, unlike cotton and other fibres that fade over time. Wool is known for its versatility and durability in fine bespoke tailoring, and the additional natural properties the fibre brings to tailoring.

Peter Ackroyd, Chairman of Campaign for Wool says, “The Campaign for Wool is proud to support this exceptional event. From established tailors to emerging talent, the pop-up mill offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the remarkable breadth and quality of luxury wool fabrics produced by some of the UK’s leading mills. We’re delighted to be part of this initiative and to promote wool’s many natural, renewable, and sustainable qualities.”

The weeks events brought together distinguished voices from the world of wool and menswear — including The Woolmark Company, master tailors, designers, textile innovators, influencers, and apprentices — for a unique celebration of wool’s enduring relevance in luxury apparel. Along with the Women in Tailoring event hosted in the pop-up space.
