One Wool Part 10

In part 10 of our One Wool initiative we’d like to introduce nominations from Lizzie Montgomery, Swaledale Woollens, Nicky Barfoot and Scarlet & Argent.

LIZZIE MONTGOMERY

Lizzie nominated this beautiful large throw created by her for her design company Lizzie Montgomery Ltd. It is crocheted in pure wool and perfectly combines function and aesthetics.

‘Kirkos’ is the Ancient Greek word for circle. The circle is found repeatedly throughout the natural world, most importantly in the sun and moon. The circle is acknowledged as an archetype of wholeness and integration.

SWALEDALE WOOLLENS 

Hand tufted Swaledale wool Tup rug in undyed natural pure British wool. Each rug has  individual markings.  Our wool comes from local sheep and is sent to Lanark Mill for washing and combing before spinning and finishing according to the Soil Association’s strict guidelines. Lanark Mill produces ethical, environmentally friendly yarn by using renewable energy from its own hydo-electricity plant.

Swaledale Woollens is situated in Swaledale in the picturesque village of Muker it was founded 40 years ago by villagers reviving the old cottage industry of knitting.  At our cottage we have a wide range of sweaters, cardigans, hats, rugs, scarves and socks, cones and balls of wool are also for sale.  We also stock sheepskin slippers, gloves and rugs.

NICKY BARFOOT

Nicky Barfoot’s work has been nominated by Loraine McClean. Loraine emailed saying;

“I love the work of Nicky Barfoot.  She translates life drawings into knitting and manages to create a really dimensional look and movement, using just stitch & tone.  She is interested in the perception of knitting as a cosy domestic / female activity and is keen to dispel this myth.”

SCARLET AND ARGENT

“We love our Twill & Granite throws!
