On Sunday 31st August, tweed clad ladies and gents from all over Scotland gathered outside the luxury Blythswood Square Hotel for the annual Harris Tweed ride, this year in partnership with the Campaign for Wool.
The Harris Tweed ride has continued to become increasingly popular with this year’s ride being no exception. Over 120 cyclists and wool lovers took part in the ride covering Glasgow Green and Kelvingrove Park taking in some of Glasgow’s most iconic sites as well as guiding riders past some of Glasgow’s top dining establishments.
After the charity cycle ride came to a finish at the new Drygate Brewery, cyclists were rewarded with gin-infused cucumber sandwiches and a specially commissioned cocktail by Scottish gin distillers, Hendricks. Awards were presented to the best-dressed cyclists clad head to toe in their finest tweed, with prizes donated by Campaign for Wool supporters, Harris Tweed and Folk clothing.
The Harris Tweed ride donated all proceedings to the Linda Norgrove Foundation for the fourth year running. The Foundation is a grant-giving trust that funds health and childcare for women and children affected by the war in Afghanistan. The charity has strong links with Campaign for Wool supporter, Harris Tweed and is based on the Hebridean Island of Lewis where the tweed is produced.
The fourth annual Harris Tweed Ride, in partnership with Campaign for Wool, was a great success with over 120 fashionable tweed clad cyclists taking part in the charity cycle ride. Once again Harris Tweed showed the versatility of wool as riders wore their attire through out the day, from cycle ride to sipping cocktails. Attendees ranged from old to young, novice to pro, showcasing that the fibre and Harris Tweed really does transcend time and fashion!
