From the 5th – 11th October, retailers and leading fashion and interiors brands will unite for Wool Week UK with a week of activities across the country. Featured activities will include:
Savile Row – Sheep on the Row
One of the largest public events for Wool Week 2015 will take place on Savile Row – the centre of men’s luxury tailoring in London – on Monday 5th October. As sheep graze, visitors will be welcomed to the open Row and tailoring houses event to learn how wool is used by the great British tailoring industry.
The iconic street will be transformed into a green pasture, covered in turf and closed to traffic while Bowmont Merino and Exmoor sheep graze along the Row. A ‘live’ model presentation that brings together leading wool mills, Savile Row, West End and London City bespoke tailors will showcase over 25 bespoke menswear outfits and demonstrate the versatility that can be found in wool.
Retailer Activation
The Campaign for Wool has chosen a key edit of wool apparel for AW15 from brands including: Abraham Moon & Sons, Anderson and Sheppard, Barbour, E.Tautz, Finisterre, Hackett, Harris Tweed Hebrides, Holly Fulton, Jaeger, Jigsaw, Marks and Spencer, Pringle of Scotland, Topshop and Wool and the Gang. The edit has been styled by Luke Day, Editor of GQ Style and shot by Nick Leary on location in Scotland featuring model Devon Windsor and Adam Butcher. In addition to the creation of stunning fashion photography will be a film capturing the journey of wool across the Scottish highlands – a love story. The love of wool, the feeling it imparts emotionally and physically and the love of nature.
In support of the CFW sixth year, leading high street retailers and designers will unite to showcase wool garments in their collections and stores. Stores around the UK will once again offer shoppers an array of essential wool pieces from their new Autumn / Winter 2015 collections.
Wool Documentary
The launch of a wool documentary, captured over the last 12 months to convey the natural attributes and benefits of wool. The film, which will be released through various channels and networks from October, highlights the safety of wool with its natural fire retardancy, wool’s biodegradability and how it degrades and returns to the soil in a matter of months a fact demonstrated by the ‘burial’ of two garments by HRH The Prince of Wales in the garden of Clarence House. In addition it reminds us of our lifestyles today – fast technology, fast cars, fast food, fast fashion and how changes are required to bring alignments and harmony back into our lives through environmentally friendly technology and cars, slow food with better ingredients and slow fashion – choose well, choose wool.
Short Films
The Campaign for Wool has produced a series of four feel-good videos in collaboration with YouTube favourite Chris Cohen to reinforce the natural benefits of wool in a light hearted way. The three films, ‘No Sweat’, ‘Sheep of The Year’ and ‘Braaad Pitt’ will be launched from 1st October.
The films will be hosted across @campaignforwool YouTube and Facebook channels and campaignforwool.org site.
Incrediwools
The Campaign for Wool champions key figures in the wool industry today with its latest series entitled, ‘The Incrediwools’. Celebrating the breadth and diversity of the wool industry, the Incrediwools series will include knit designers Wool and The Gang, interior and textile designers Donna Wilson and Bea Larkin, Harris Tweed Hebrides Creative Director Mark Hogarth, photographer Ian Lawson, Merino childrenswear brand Smalls and designers Ally Capellino, Jeremy Hackett and Douglas Cordeaux.
The Incrediwools series will be released on campaignforwool.org from August with support across our social channels @campaignforwool.
Woolly Hat Day
On Friday 9th October, The Campaign for Wool will be supporting ‘Woolly Hat Day’ in support of ‘The Mission to Seafarers’ charity that provides care for seafarers around the world. Across the UK, The Campaign for Wool will encourage its partners and retailers to put on their finest woolly hats to raise money and support this important cause. New woolly hat patterns from Marie Wallin, Craft Revolution, Wool & the Gang and other leading knitwear designers will be available to download on campaignforwool.org in September 2015.
The Wool Lounge
A wool lounge has been designed to preview some of the top interior styles for the coming season. Fabulous flooring, fabrics and furnishings will capture the versatility of real wool for design and decor in the home.
‘Raise the Baa’ – An Exhibition of Wool Landscape and Wool Interiors
Wool Week will see the launch of a pop-up exhibition in central London which will feature stunning imagery from landscape photographer Ian Lawson and The Campaign for Wool’s inspirational interpretation of these into highly styled interior photography. This exhibition, which pays tribute to 2015 being the Year of the Sheep, conveys the vital roles sheep and landscape play in the wool textile industry. The exhibition will also feature a selection of the products used in the interior image photographic shoot and craft workshops.
Heals Talks
The design topic ‘Country Style’, forms part of the interiors activity this year with a Wool Talk at retailer Heals, London on 8th October from 6pm. Featuring a specialist panel of designer makers, the event focuses on the subject ‘Wool in the Modern Country Home: colour, pattern and texture’ (ticket reservation only).
